Interstate 10 Katy Freeway Photos Westbound
last updated November 23, 2008
The expansion of Interstate 10 west, the Katy Freeway, was dedicated on October 28, 2008, after four years of construction.

The main lanes were open earlier in October, and the HOV/toll lanes became operational on October 29.

These photos were taken on Sunday, October 19, 2008, a week before the project completion. These photos start just east of Loop 610 and proceed westbound to State Highway 6.

This view is about 0.5 mile inside Loop 610, proceeding westbound toward the city of Katy. The railroad crossing ahead was replaced as part of the project, providing a wider clearance to allow more lanes.

This interchange was totally rebuilt, replace the original interchange completed in 1968. Most work on this interchange was complete in 2007.

Pavement route shield markings are used on the Katy Freeway in advance of major interchanges. These markers indicate that the lanes continue on I-10.

The five-level interchange at the Sam Houston Tollway/Beltway 8, originally completed in 1989, was dismantled and replaced with the new interchange. The only remaining structure from the original interchange is the Sam Houston tollway main lanes.
